I am a fan of the free verse, wrap around sonnet, where you write 14 lines of poetry, then the next day use the last line from the day before to begin your new sonnet. I find the most wonderful themes and topics emerge over time. Here is the sonnet that nearly wrote itself this morning:
Blazingly aware
that each moment,
each breath, each heartbeat
is finite, has been counted,
numbered, and will come to a close….
Blazingly aware
of my mortality,
I begin this day, I begin each day
asking, “What can I do with this day?
What can I create?
Who can I help? How can I help?
Dear Creator, God, Goddess, All That Is,
what would You have Me do today?
What would You have Me do with this precious jewel of a day?”
